Funeral costs, RAF veteran, Dennis Wheeler

Those of you who were regulars at The Union Jack Club will have known the elderly, RAF veteran, Dennis. He was a visitor to the club every evening for many years and was much loved and respected. Sadly, Dennis passed away in hospital in January with me by his side.

With no known next of kin, with no finance to speak of and no life insurance either it has been left to me, as a close friend, to make arrangements for his funeral.

I find myself now in the position of trying to raise the funds for the expense of his service at St Clement Danes, the Central Church of the Royal Air Force, and for his cremation. This was a church that Dennis held a deep affection for and I feel is a fitting venue for us to say our final goodbye to him, one of the last of his generation.

The total funds that I need to raise is £5,000. Other avenues have already been explored unsuccessfully which is why I now find myself making this heartfelt appeal. It would be truly appreciated if people feel that they would like to, and are able to, make a contribution.

I would like to be able to give Dennis the send off that he so very much deserves. He was a warm and kind man, very humble, who brought love and laughter into the lives of those that knew him. His presence at the Union Jack Club is already missed by so many and also by his close friends in the wider community.
