Dear CSI Family and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that we write this note to all of you. Two of our CSI family members have been going through a very difficult time. Siblings, Coach Eric and Coach Kara (Coach Matt’s wife) have had more than their share of challenges over the last few months.
This summer, Eric ruptured an intervertebral disc while catching a baby who was falling off a table. This incident put him out of work and in bed 24/7 for an entire week. A few months later, on 8/14/18, Coach Kara and Coach Matt welcomed their first baby into this world. Their beautiful daughter, Harlyn Kay Laughlin, is showing she is a fighter with undergoing surgery within her first 2 months of life. Around this same time, Eric and Kara’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Coach Eric is the caretaker for his dad and has been coordinating his care with doctor visits, treatments, health plans, and daily needs. There have been many trips to the hospital for both their father and little Harlyn.
Just when you would think Eric and Kara couldn’t handle anything else, they learned of their sister’s tragic car accident this past Saturday. Their sister, Stacey, was traveling with her husband and four young children up to Cleveland to celebrate Thanksgiving with her dad and family. While at a stop light in Beaufort, SC an EMS vehicle rear-ended their vehicle causing critical injuries to Stacey and Sophia (7) as well as injuring Vaughn, Lexi, Emma & Dax. Both their sister and seven-year-old niece were life-flighted to two different hospitals, each in a different state. Their seven-year-old niece, Sophia, is progressing but will have a long road of recovery ahead of her. For the moment the doctors are keeping her sedated due to her fractured skull. Sadly, Eric and Kara’s sister passed away from the complications of her injuries on Monday, 19 November 2018. As Eric put it, "God got a good one today."
One begins to ask just how much can a person carry. Our CSI family would like to help by offsetting some of their financial burdens during this trying time. Please consider making a donation of $20 or whatever you feel led to. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and will undoubtedly be a tremendous help in offsetting the numerous expenses that have occurred due to missed work, travel and other related expenses.
