Dennis has lived a very active lifestyle. He loves to fish, golf, ski, bike and enjoy the outdoors. He has loved his job as a Golf Course Superintendent for over 20 years. Dennis began having back pain in 2013. After many doctors, orthopedic surgeons, steroid injections and physical therapy he finally had his first back surgery is 2017 which was a Laminectomy. In 2018 the pain was still requiring pain medication, physical therapy, TENS device, but this time he had numbness in his feet along with pain that was unbearable at times. In 2019 he had a lumbar fusion done hoping that this would take care of the pain. Unfortunately, after almost a year of Physical Therapy his therapist discovered that his Sacroiliac joint was not remaining in place. This is a joint that doesn’t move on a normal person. So his pain is now hip and lower back pain that is created by this. He has great insurance with Anthem but they have denied it saying it’s not medically necessary. The surgery he needs is called an SI fusion, many insurance companies do not cover it, including his. He has appealed numerous times over the last 8 months, he has worked with many people to try to get it covered. The surgery is between 15-20k, which we have resorted to paying cash for. Dennis would love to enjoy the things he once did including golf, which is part of his career. Dennis has not golfed in at-least 5 years. He still enjoys a little fishing, but had to make some modifications to his boat to be able to stand that long. We are reaching out to seek assistance for this procedure. It is not fair that a persons quality of life is in the hands of an insurance decision. Thank you so much.
