Many of you know my wonderful friend and former teammate Denise Lightning. She is one of the most generous and thoughtful people I know. As a young skater I looked up to her derby skills. I aspired to be as great of a skater and as motivational as she made me feel. As a new mom I looked to her for support and advice. Many of you have felt the light that is Denise Lightning.
Today I look to you to help her keep her home. In the past few years she's ended up in bad relationship where she was abused and taken advantage of. She fell prey to a very narcissistic and manipulative man with a lot of financial problems. He made this financial problems her problems. He was abusive to her and the kids.
She has finally gotten him out of the house but between a series of expensive health problems and raising three kids on her own she has lost her job and is behind on her mortgage.
The bank is threatening to take her house. If she could just sell she would but there are items that need to be completed before she could sell. Denise needs an exit strategy from this relationship and the debt that has been accrued. She needs to finish her college degree (soooooo close!). We have been working on multiple angles to give Denise the tools that are available to take the next steps. Many of those steps have a slightly longer rate of return.
Denise has been a long time giver. She was the first person to give me her hand me downs when the twins are born. She mailed them across the country. Who does that? Denise.
Today I ask you to give back. So often we don't know when our friends are suffering. We hide it. We are embarrassed. So often we wonder how we can be a good friend, how we can help someone in need. Today, it's cash.
