Denise Dumais’s Memorial Bench

Since the initial goal has been met, the fundraiser will end Sunday, May 11th. All remaining proceeds will be given to the ICU unit at the TBRHSC

We are coming together with Denise’s family to fundraise the creation of a memorial bench in honour of someone who meant so much to so many — a wonderful teacher, colleague, friend, mother, partner (and so much more) who passed away this April.

Denise was the kind of person who quietly made everything better just by being there. She was also an amazing listener. She had a calm strength, a deep kindness, and a way of making people feel seen and supported — whether you were a student in her class, a fellow teacher, or a friend.

One of the things she loved most was being outside. Whether it be her daily walks, weekends camping, or just a breath of fresh air, she found so much peace in nature. Her daughter said it best: “She loved the outdoors and went on daily walks, so a bench would be a very special tribute.”

We’re hoping to raise $3,000 to cover the cost of installing a memorial bench in the city, along with maintenance so it can be enjoyed for years to come. The exact location is still being finalized, and we’ll share an update once it’s confirmed.

This bench will be a quiet place to sit, rest, and remember — just the kind of gift she would have loved to give to others. If you’re able to contribute, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Nous nous réunissons avec la famille de Denise pour récolter des fonds afin de créer un banc commémoratif en hommage à une personne qui a tant compté pour tant de monde — une enseignante, collègue, amie, maman, amour (et tellement plus) extraordinaire, qui nous a quittés en avril.

Denise était le genre de personne qui rendait les choses meilleures, juste par sa présence. Elle savait écouter, non pas seulement pour te répondre, mais pour sincèrement t’aider. Elle avait une force tranquille, une grande gentillesse, et cette capacité à faire en sorte que chacun se sente vu, entendu, et soutenu — que vous soyez un·e élève, un·e collègue, ou un·e ami·e.

Elle aimait énormément être dehors. Que ce soit ses marches quotidiennes, ses weekends en camping, ou simplement pour prendre l’air… la nature lui apportait beaucoup de paix. Sa fille l’a dit parfaitement : « She loved the outdoors and went on daily walks, so a bench would be a very special tribute. »

Nous espérons recueillir 3 000 $ pour couvrir les frais d’installation du banc dans la ville, ainsi que son entretien, pour qu’il puisse être apprécié pendant de nombreuses années. L’endroit exact n’est pas encore confirmé, mais nous vous tiendrons au courant dès que c’est fait.

Ce banc sera un endroit paisible pour s’asseoir, se reposer, et se souvenir — exactement le genre de cadeau que Denise aurait aimé offrir aux autres. Si vous pouvez contribuer, merci du fond du cœur.
