Rebuilding life after double amputation and other significant losses.

This is not a sob story. This is a story of rebuilding.

In the last 12 months, my life changed in ways I never could have imagined. What started as pneumonia and the flu turned into respiratory failure, septic shock, and a medically induced coma that lasted 30 days.

When I woke up, both of my feet were black, hardened, and no longer viable due to loss of blood flow. I had to undergo amputation.

In that same season, I also lost my best friend, my dog of 13 years, most of my hair, and my corporate HR job at Amazon.

I used to ask, “Why me?”

I don’t anymore.

Because I survived.

I woke up from a coma with my mind intact, my heart full, and a second chance at life. I now live as Denise 2.0—awake, aware, and rebuilding with faith.

Because of the support, love, and generosity from so many of you, I now have my prosthetic legs and have started physical therapy twice a week to learn how to walk again.

But the journey is far from over.

Due to job loss and lack of insurance, I am facing significant out-of-pocket expenses, including:

• Ongoing physical therapy

• Prosthetic adjustments and maintenance

• Medical equipment and supplies

• Living expenses during recovery

Every donation goes directly toward helping me regain independence, mobility, and a better quality of life.
