Denis' Kidney Journey

Hi everyone - I’ve created this fundraiser for our friend's little boy, Denis, who has been battling a chronic Kidney Disease since he was born. Denis is so full of life, goofy, witty - always putting a smile on others’ faces and has a heart so full of love and hope.

He was diagnosed with hydronephrosis (swelling of the kidneys) when he was in utero and was later diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) stage 1 when he was born. He spent the first 2 weeks of his life in the NICU and had surgery at just 8 days old. He’s been through countless doctor appointments multiple times a week on a regular basis, ultrasounds and bloodwork. Denis has been a fighter since he was born. Unfortunately, over the 10 years of his life, his kidneys have gradually worsened and now he needs a kidney transplant.

After much testing and hoping, Denis’ father, Urim, is a match for the kidney transplant! While this is incredibly exciting, it is also very daunting and happening very quickly. Denis and Urim will both undergo invasive surgery, and life for the Memedovski family will be put on pause for a minimum of 8 weeks - possibly more as 2 out of the 5 family members are recovering. No one can just put life, work, and family on hold for that amount of time especially with little time to prepare. With this exciting news comes a rapid timeline of events that we are wrapping our heads around - on May 24, 2022, Denis will have a new kidney and a new, lifelong journey ahead.
