Denice’s Story:
Over five years ago, our friend Denice decided to take her life back and spent a significant amount of time in an extended treatment program, learning how to live free from alcohol and substances. Denice has worked tirelessly since then to advocate for others struggling with addiction. Denice is a single mom to a beautiful 13-year-old, and she works in the recovery field because she loves to help others. She is currently in the process of becoming a licensed therapist.
On November 9th, 2021, Denice discovered she has invasive ductal cancer, and fighting for her health alone has created tremendous stress. The first thing Denice thought about was how she would continue to work and provide for her daughter while making sure her daughter continues to thrive as a teenager. It is unknown how long Denice will be out of work and her insurance will not cover a large portion of her medical expenses. Denice already owes thousands of dollars in medical bills just from running tests, and when she got the statements in the mail, there was a feeling of overwhelming defeat. This experience was before she even started the treatment process. In addition to the surgeries and treatments, Denice will continue to protect her recovery and care for her daughter. Denice has a supportive community that adores her. She participates in recovery walks, fundraisers, awareness weeks, sponsors other women in recovery, and always shows up. We hope that whether or not you know Denice personally, we can come together during this season and offer Denice some peace and comfort, relieving some stress that should never be put on someone when they find out they have cancer.
