DeNatalie Phillips - Team DeNatalie
This is the official GoFundMe site for DeNatalie Phillips.
DeNatalie is a self-employed public relations professional, who has always been physically active—a 15-mile-a-week walker, a yoga and Pilates enthusiast and an active member of the Southwest YWCA in Atlanta. She writes and performs poetry. She's a voracious reader, an avid jazz lover and a fierce fashionista!
DeNatalie needs your help.
More than two years ago, on March 13, 2013, DeNatalie walked into a hospital in Atlanta, where she underwent a routine back operation. She hasn’t walked since.
After weeks in the hospital and a battery of tests, she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare inflammatory disease that causes spinal cord injury. (It's so rare that only 1,400 new cases are reported a year nationwide.) The cause of DeNatalie’s transverse myelitis was never determined.
The once-active DeNatalie is now confined to a wheelchair, with paralysis below the waist. Her 83-year-old mother has become her primary caregiver.
For months, she has sought treatment. But local doctors, including those at the Shepherd (spinal) Center and Emory University, have been unsuccessful in treating her condition. Doctors have discussed other diagnoses, as well.
In the meantime, the ever-positive DeNatalie is determined to walk again.
Monies raised would be used for treatment DeNatalie is seeking through specialty clinics. Monies also would be used to help modify her house, so that she may return to her own home again. Necessary modifications include ramps and bathroom saftey bars.
DeNatalie can't do this alone. It takes a team effort and you're invited to join the team--Team DeNatalie!
Donations of any amount are much appreciated.
Thank you.
