Kennett High School's FRC Team 4342 Demon Robotics has qualified for the FIRST® World Championships in Houston Texas!
Demon Robotics has had an impressive season, earning two awards (FIRST®'s Imagry Award & Industrial Design Award) at FIRST® Mid-Atlantic District competitions and playing through the elimination rounds. In the later competition, the team was an Alliance Captain and played in the finals where they finished as finalists (2nd place)!
These performances and awards earned the team a spot at the FIRST® Mid-Atlantic District Championships, by ranking 27th out of 127 teams. The Championships were this past weekend where the team finished in 9th place out of 60 teams after qualification matches, then the team was promoted to captains of the 7th ranked alliance for the elimination matches. After being eliminated, the team enjoyed watching the rest of the exciting competition. During the awards ceremonies, Demon Robotics was honored by the judges with the FIRST® Gracious Professionalism Award! "Celebrates outstanding demonstration of FIRST Core Values such as continuous Gracious Professionalism and working together both on and off the playing field.
Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST®. It’s a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. With Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. Gracious professionals learn and compete like crazy, but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process. Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended."
The final announcements at the Championships are the list of those who through their total points from the season are ranked and FIRST® Mid-Atlantic can send 23 of those teams to World Championships. Demon Robotics ranked 17th out of 127 teams, securing a spot at FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas in April!!!
We are so proud of the team's performance and perseverance this season, especially with a few unplanned challenges we faced. As we graduated over half of the team last year, our members this year were primarily underclassmen and new to the team. We were also limited on our preseason time to train and prepare the students due to having access to our new shop space that the school district very generously provided us. We made up for lost time as soon as we could get into the shop through the mentors and returning students teaching our new members all about FIRST® and our team practices.
We greatly appreciate all the support we receive from the families, school, and local community that allowed us allowed us to get to this point of the season. We are humbled by all the support being shared on social media and direct messaging from our sponsors, friends, families, and the unwavering support of our alumni - that also offer their help through their team experience and knowledge!
This will be 4342 Demon Robotics 5th consecutive (2017, 2018, 2019, no live competition in 2020 & 2021, 2022, 2023) qualification for the FIRST® World Championships!
We cannot wait to represent our team, school, families, and community on the world stage once again!
The team members will be traveling this year by air. In addition to the team's registration costs, our robot, tools, and materials will be shipped, and we will need accommodations for everyone for five nights. We do not want the expense of this trip to keep any team member from being able to participate or have to miss this incredible expereince. Please consider contributing to help lower the cost for these amazing students and their dedicated mentors. Any amount would be greatly appreciated to help us reach our goal. Please share this with family, friends, co-workers, etc., and help spread the word about this team and these incredible students!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT - IT MEANS "THE WORLDS" TO US!
