Taufiq Rashid Library Fund
Donation protected
This fundraiser serves as an extension of the Taufiq Rashid Lecture Series. In August 2019 we lost our dear friend and much-esteemed colleague, Taufiq Rashid. We believe, as Taufiq did, that learning is a lifelong pursuit and that learning how to learn is the most meaningful benefit of a university education, one that allows you to develop an ongoing practice of engaging with complex ideas and materials.
The money raised here will be used to buy books for Waterfield Library at Murray State University. These books will focused around the series theme of antiracist learning. Earlier this year, a similar fundraiser was used to deliver a check to Taufiq's wife, Laura Dawkins - a scholar of African-American literature - so that she could choose books that she felt could benefit the Murray State community.
As an immigrant to the United States and passionate supporter of fairness and justice for all people, we know Taufiq would have so much to contribute to the discussions and the movements that define our present moment. The books that will be selected will also contribute to this discussion and be chosen as exemplars to his spirited engagement, and will be presented to the library in his name and in his honor.
