Hi, my name is Sarah Flores, and I'm fundraising on behalf of my sibling-in-law, Demeris Hope Flores.

 

Demi (pronouns she/her & they/them) is a queer, disabled Filipina-American youth who has been battling with Chiari Malformation. "A Chiari malformation is a problem in which a part of the brain (the cerebellum) at the back of the skull bulges through a normal opening in the skull where it joins the spinal canal. This puts pressure on parts of the brain and spinal cord and can cause mild to severe symptoms." Demi suffers from an extremely severe case.

Over the past year, Demi has seen countless doctors, stayed in three hospitals, endured eight surgeries (six within a forty-day period), survived two strokes, and had to learn how to walk again four times. We have almost lost Demi four times during her fight.

Currently, Demi is dynamically disabled and suffers from chronic fatigue, gallstones, and an enlarged liver. Daily tasks exhaust her completely; life events devastate their body and take an incredible recovery time. Demi is looking forward to getting a wheelchair to enjoy more freedom, such as day trips, without a days-long recovery period. My mother-in-law, Melissa Holland has done an exceptional job supporting Demi day and night and advocating for her every step of the way. However, this is no small feat, and the financial toll of Demi's recovery is great. Please consider donating whatever you can and/or sharing this fundraiser. We are currently attempting to secure Demi a wheelchair and help Melissa with overwhelming medical bills.
