Dementia's Dark Days--In Support of Pete Sylvester
Donation protected
My name is Michael Sylvester and ever since I was a little boy, I have idolized my big brother Pete. Unfortunately, Pete is very sick these days and is suffering from Dementia with Lewy bodies. For those that don't know what this disease is, I'll give a quick summary of it.
A nasty protein, discovered by Frederick Lewy (hence the name), attacks vital chemicals in the brain not unlike a "pac-man" does. Without these chemicals, the body starts to shake, especially the arms and hands (mimicking Parkinson Disease), walking is difficult, most days, and his poor balance contributes to his frequent falls. His cognition has declined rapidly to the point he doesn't recognize who I am. Hallucinations are frequent and a deterioration of posture and motor skills are worsening. He is severely depressed most days and can't dress or feed himself anymore.
I am overwhelmed, to say the least, (we live together), I need assistance but can't afford the clinical help that he deserves. Although his insurance does pay for some help (9-11 hours/week), it's just not enough, especially as he's declining rapidly. I'd like to quit working and do all the work myself, but can't afford it nor do I have the expertise to give him all the clinical help he needs.
Any funding would be much appreciated and as soon as possible.
Thank you and God Bless
