Terrified Black Trans Woman TERRORISED by A&E Staff at the Princess Alexander Hospital in Essex.
Who is Girl C?
Girl C is a young, black transgender woman from London. She is a prominent member of the community and probably someone that you know and love. Sadly, Girl C was terrorised and abused by NHS staff in the A&E department at the Princess Alexander Hospital in Harlow, Essex where she was rushed to from an aircraft that had just landed following in flight complications from gender affirming surgery outside of the UK. Girl C experienced egregious mistreatment and abuse at the hands of NHS staff including what she says can only be described as a sexual assault at the hands of a Doctor.
Public Statement on the Abuse of Girl C by NHS staff
Girl C was terrorised and abused by NHS staff in the A&E department at the Princess Alexander Hospital in Harlow, Essex where she was rushed to from an aircraft that had just landed following gender affirming surgery outside of the UK. During the flight, she noticed some bleeding and started to swell up uncontrollably. She fell unconscious and began turning blue and cabin crew were forced to declare an emergency and administer oxygen.
As soon as she landed in the UK she was rushed to hospital. When she arrived, she was terrorised and abused by hospital staff in the presence of 2 witnesses; left to cry out in agony for hours, given insufficient pain management and made to soil herself in her cubicle as nurses ignored her pleas for the toilet, with one nurse even drawing her cubicle curtain as she cried out for help. She was repeatedly cannulated with needles that were far too large for her body and treated with disgust.
When Girl C was finally consulted by a doctor, he poked at her groin and proclaimed ‘have you had that done?’ despite Girl C being very clear that she had only had surgery on her upper body. This was reported to the hospital by Girl C’s companion and the Nurse in charge notified the police. Two male officers then attended and took Girl C’s statement in a public corridor and refused her request to speak in privacy.
Following this, when Girl C was wheeled to the smoking area by her friend to calm down, the hospital reported to the police that she had stolen the breathing apparatus that she had been prescribed by the hospital. Girl C had not left the hospital.
She later had to discharge herself from the hospital due to fears for her safety.
She has not yet been able to face accessing the further care that she desperately needs.
Girl C is not alone - The NHS is Killing Trans People!
The appalling treatment experienced by Girl C at the Princess Alexandra Hospital's Accident and Emergency (A&E) department on September 30, 2023, sheds a distressing light on the urgent issue of how the NHS is endangering the lives of transgender individuals. Girl C's account resonates with wider social disparities in healthcare, particularly for transgender people.
The systemic disparities in pain management and care, as evidenced by studies like Hoffman et al. (2016) and Grant et al. (2011), illustrate the urgent need for reforms to ensure equitable medical treatment for transgender individuals. Instances of neglect, dignity violations, sexual assault, and inappropriate conduct, highlighted in research by James et al. (2016) and Kass et al. (2015), underscore the pressing requirement for a compassionate, respectful, and safe healthcare environment for transgender individuals. Furthermore, the experiences of racial discrimination and criminalization faced by Black individuals within the healthcare system, as reported by Bailey et al. (2017), expose the intersecting biases and prejudices that endanger the lives and well-being of transgender individuals, calling for immediate and comprehensive action to address this grave issue.
