Hi! Welcome to our GoFundMe page dedicated to Charlie Morgan and his cancer journey. We will do our best to family & friends updated along the way.
Charlie is a 17-year-old junior at St. John Vianney High School. This past December, Charlie began complaining of knee pain. With sports and other activities, the pain continued to worsen so Charlie was taken to an orthopedist to determine the cause. After an MRI, CT scan, bone scan, and appointments with specialists, it was determined that Charlie has a large, malignant tumor on his left femur. The tumor was diagnosed as Osteosarcoma, or bone cancer.
As a result of the diagnosis, an aggressive treatment plan was created and Charlie has been receiving weekly chemotherapy. The first few weeks were very difficult to tolerate and the side effects have been debilitating. Fortunately, the most recent treatments have been a bit easier to tolerate and have allowed Charlie to attend a few days of school and even visit with friends. His treatment will continue with scans on April 23rd and surgery is scheduled on April 30th. After surgery, Charlie will resume chemotherapy and additional treatment for an undetermined amount of time.
A dedicated, active member of the Vianney community, Charlie is an Ambassador, a member of the National Honor Society, and a volleyball player. Vianney has rallied around Charlie to support him and to promote cancer awareness. Last week, Vianney hosted a Charlie Morgan day where the volleyball team dedicated their 2019 season to him, and the baseball team invited Charlie to throw out the first pitch. #CharlieStrong and #TeamCharlie are frequent hashtags in Vianney’s twitter account.
Charlie’s family has been rallying around him as well. He has an older sister, who is a freshman in college, and two younger brothers, in high school and elementary school. Prior to his diagnosis, Charlie picked up both boys from school every day and helped with homework and after school activities while his mom was at work. A very tight knit crew, all three siblings shaved their heads or cut their hair in support of Charlie. Also committed to his faith, Charlie is an active member of St. Peter Church in Kirkwood, and participates in the youth group and other parish activities.
As you can imagine, the road ahead for Charlie and his family is long and uncertain. They have been blessed with a tremendous amount of support and love on this journey already, and are forever grateful for all of the encouragement. They are seeking financial support and assistance to help cover the continuing medical expenses throughout this journey. Prayers are also greatly appreciated. Thank you.
