Hello, we are Delta Sigma Phi at West Virginia University any you may have yet to be aware of our presence as we have recently started in the fall of 2023 with the help of our national staff. Since the inception of an idea from five friends who met on a camping trip that summer has come to life, I am proud to say that we have been thriving on campus as to not only compete with historic growth numbers in the likes of WVU but Delta Sigma Phi as well.
From our outset in a grassroots manner we have come to achieve an astounding 45 active members at the conclusion of the 2024 fall semester! In that first semester we not only established ourselves as new and cut from the cloth of genuine brotherhood but also sought after pursuits in philanthropic aspects. In our most youthful days we found success in raising over $1,000 for the Special Olympics, and later that semester came to host a Delta Sig Dog Days with WVU Paws where proceeds went to benefit dog shelters in the local Morgantown Area.
We come to better men everyday not only in the relationships we make and form inside the fraternity, but outside as well. As undergraduate students we see to it that the goal of academic excellence is fundamentally instilled with our brothers in pursuit of 50 various degrees, representing 32 different majors, and 36 separate minors. By our last calculations active members hold an average GPA of 3.32 ranking us 3rd on campus among all greek social life.
Often our brothers find themselves as patriots being involved in the United States military. Whilst I am the sole veteran having served as Active Duty Army we are proud to have our brothers represent the United States Air Force ROTC, Army National Guard, and Air Force National Guard respectively. When our Alpha class was initiated in October of 2023, roughly one in three brothers had a connection to a branch of military service.
Above all else we find ourselves reaching out to you today regarding some very exciting news. I am proud to announce that after a short stint of only 16 months following our founding, contracts have been signed and we will be moving into a 32 bedroom greek life-zoned house located in the heart of ‘main’ street (North High St) here on campus in Morgantown.
This house will allow us to do more than just ‘put us on the map’ but will be a physical manifestation of the long nights, weeks, and months of the strategic teamwork and planning we have been able to successfully execute. The accomplishment of what this entails represents to me what can be done when a group of highly motivated individuals come together with a shared vision of the future. As the ‘uncle’ of the fraternity, being that I am at the ripe age of 25, what these boys do and the way in which they get it done is on par, and often goes beyond, what I saw in aspects of team-action while I served my four years in the United States Army while training for combat in a field artillery unit.
With this all in mind however do we currently find ourselves at an impasse, one in the means of a financial aspect. While our potential continues to develop, unfortunately our coffers do not grow accordingly. We’ve raised dues and ensured the proper payment of all finances to our respective creditors, but are still struggling to find the adequate funding for such a property of this manner.
As you might imagine we have no alumni here from WVU to support us. If we did, this letter would be directed towards them, however that status has not and will not be reached by any of our founding members until May of this year. Upon their graduation they will just come to begin their post-graduation careers in an economy that has seen an inflation rate of over 20% in just the past four years.
I am requesting from you today a donation of any amount that you might be able to provide so that we may be able to ensure our house, the sustained growth for our future, and not let lay to waste the foundation of this chapter in all that it has accomplished!
