Delta Chi Fraternity - The Behrend Chapter

Brothers & Friends of Delta Chi,
We hope everyone is doing well. We feel like the last few months have been hard on everyone. We all mourned the loss of a brother, and life in general throughout 2020 has been a struggle for even the most optimistic among us. While the undergraduate chapter has been moving forward despite all of the complications presented to them, even begrudgingly splitting an AM program between the spring and fall 2020 semesters, and holding meetings on Zoom, etc... things are getting to a level of difficulty never expected for our chapter.
Recruiting is extremely difficult, and a general feeling of anxiety grips both the chapter and the alumni advisors. But, according to our own AND the University's projections for fall of 2021, the chapter is in a dangerous place. Without a successful recruitment this spring, due to graduations and transfers, the Behrend Chapter of Delta Chi could literally be ONE member come fall of 2021.
The ABT originally intended to incentivize recruitment efforts this spring: set a goal for the chapter and assist with the absentee rent portion of their dues. In recent discussions, and in light of recent information about the status of Greek Life across the entire campus, we have decided that we would simply rather help the chapter through a difficult time.
ABT Member and former chapter "D" Max found that a goal of just $2,000 would go a long way of helping to alleviate some of the stresses the chapter sees regarding their dues costs, and they can use that as a method of incentivizing potential new members (alleviating the burden of dues for a semester). An additional $2,200 on top of that would help meet absentee rent costs and help keep the HOUSE afloat, even if the chapter continues to struggle.
There have been discussions with IHQ and Board of Regents members asking just why International dues are not being relaxed as much as they should, or even waived to help undergraduate chapters suffering through uncertain times. This conversation is going to continue: I am in the process of setting up a meeting with IHQ representatives to discuss the future of the chapter, as well as the unreasonable expenses expected of them. Still, part of the discussion will be treating this like a fresh chartering: allowing Delta Chi internationally to help with recruitment efforts, much like when Delta Chi came to the campus and our dearest BYN founders established a new charter.
The fact that we, as a chapter, paid off the house last year helps us, but it also gives us one of the largest burdens on campus, as the only Fraternity to still maintain a chapterhouse. The chapter house belongs to BYN Housing Corp, and NOT Delta Chi - this fund raiser is a way of ensuring we can continue to maintain the house, even in the unfortunate event it remains empty and the chapter is forced to "reboot."
This fundraiser is important to the sustainability and survivability of the Behrend chapter itself, and additionally serves as a way to fund BUN Housing Corp.
Thank you for your support,
