FILM SYNOPSIS: In 2014, a group of Columbia University students reignited a national conversation about campus sexual assault. Despite documentaries focusing on this wave of activism, the way campus Title IX proceedings have played out, especially for students with marginalized identities, has largely remained secret … until now.
Deliberately Indifferent follows the stories of sexual assault survivors at Columbia University who secretly recorded their interactions with campus first responders, administrators, and Title IX investigators. Through interviews interwoven with audio recordings, Deliberately Indifferent explores how an Ivy League university actually handles sexual assault behind closed doors. The documentary will feature stories of abuse by the University that continues to this day, in 2021.
---
This documentary film-making effort is being spearheaded by Columbia survivors themselves and a women and LGBTQ-run production company (Vindication Films). Unfortunately, making documentaries, even less fancy ones, is expensive. Donations of any size would help us do the following:
1. Hire a sound editor to enhance recording audio quality. (Columbia's recording bans forced survivors to hide recording devices in jacket pockets, which makes them less clear without proper editing.)
2. Compensate graphic designers, video editors, and photographers who have contributed their labor to the project. We believe everyone deserves to be compensated for their artistic labor, especially in light of COVID.
3. Other production (and legal, if Columbia retaliates) costs!
---
Donations of any size (even $1!) are appreciated. We are also offering additional incentives for those who have the means to contribute larger amounts. For more information, check out our website.
