Dear Friends and Family of Delcie,
In lieu of flowers and other condolences, please consider a donation to Delcie’s Memorial Fund. The family wishes to make a collective donation, in her name, to both the ASPCA and to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society . The latter helped her immensely during her time of illness with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Obituary
Delcie Anita Stephens (née Bass) of Sarasota and Nokomis, FL, always wanted to go on a trip, and on the beautiful, clear morning of November 16, 2014, she made her final journey home to God. She was 67. She departed peacefully in her home, surrounded and held by her loving family and miniature longhaired Dachshund, Penny. Born February 22, 1947 in Madison, FL, she was the granddaughter of Ephfrom Carvel Bass and “Granny” Edna Fair Bass (née Kelly), of Madison.
Delcie is survived by sons Gary, Michael, and Andrew, sister Nona, grandchildren Faith Ann and Alexander, niece Stephanie, daughter-in-laws Kelly and Elizabeth, former spouse Kenneth, and dogs Penny and Bear. She is also survived by close girlfriends, hundreds of dear friends, and thousands of former patients whose lives she touched as a nurse.
A free-spirited woman with Southern charm, she loved to cook for family and friends, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and antique collecting. She is remembered for her infectious laugh, bright smile, kindness, humor, warmth, hospitality, and her deep love for family.
Delcie devoted her life to caring for the sick, the elderly, and the lonely. Along with her family, the Florence Nightingale Society will honor her at a celebration of life ceremony to take place at 4:30 pm, Friday, November 28th, 2014 at Sarasota Outboard Club, 1604 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota 34236.
Go home, Mom, to your mountains. Be with Granny, Kathy, Meghan, and Honey Bear. Watch over us, and love us, just as you always have.
We love you.
