Del Dennis Home Care Assistance Fund
Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request for donations. I am Del Dennis’ granddaughter. As many of you may know, Grandma has been battling cancer for the past three years. Chemotherapy has taken its toll, her health has deteriorated, and she is now confined to a wheelchair. Grandma returned home to Mayerthorpe, to the care of her family doctor and a six week stay in the hospital, to face yet another battle, an infection. It has been a very difficult challenge for her, being indoors all the time, being separated from her only remaining pet, her dog Dove. But like most challenges in Grandma’s life, she met this one with determination, optimism, and courage. She is grateful for the excellent care and emotional boost she received from her doctor and the nurses and staff at the hospital, but her greatest wish is to spend the summer months at home with Dove, on her deck in the sun, cross stitching, telling stories, laughing with family and friends, immersing herself in all the happy memories she has of raising dogs, working in her yard, and spending time independently in her own house, in the house she loves. Alberta Health Services provides excellent home care support each and every day but their hours are limited. Grandma’s family was able to secure part time private home care to fill the void. Since leaving the hospital, Grandma has regained a little bit of weight, she is sleeping better and she is so very happy! We are hoping she will manage living in her house until at least the end of the summer, a cost of $175 per day. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. I should mention that Grandma knows I am doing this, and while she is slightly uncomfortable with the asking, it is important to her that I let everyone know how much she appreciates your messages, your positive thoughts, and your prayers. Grandma is in good hands and doing as well as can be expected; she’s a “warrior”! I visited with her a few weeks ago and honestly, she hasn’t changed much - her wit is intact - she made some dirty jokes and we laughed the entire time. I love her so much and I would like to thank you for considering a donation to help make Grandma’s wish come true. Please note that when Grandma moves back in to the hospital full time any remaining funds in this account will be donated to the Mayerthorpe Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. (Please note that payments from our campaign will go to Lee Cech who is making the payments to home care for Grandma. Thank you again.)
