Getting Deklin overseas for Basketball

My name is Deklin Jarrett and I am a young Aboriginal man with connections to the Bundjalung, Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, Punthamara and Gooreng Gooreng nations. I am asking for your support to attend the upcoming 2025 Basketball Tour in the United States of America.

I have been blessed to be elected by my teachers and peers as the first ever Indigenous leader for St Gregory’s College as well as being elected as a boarding leader for 2025.

I am a sibling of 5 children and the first in my family to be given an opportunity to tour outside of Australia. I love being a part of my local communities whether it’s through sport or community events and activities. Most importantly, as ingrained by my parents, I love being part of my family and have strong family values.

My mum and dad are both hardworking family members, alone, both cannot cover the cost associated with the USA Tour this year. All donations will be directly used to cover costs associated with both tours. Cost includes but is not limited to airfares, travel insurance, accommodation, workshops, meals, activities and cultural immersions. Other costs include passport, day to day living and other meals associated with the Tour.

If I cannot attend both tours, I miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel and experience different parts of the world and immerse myself into the culture, sports and lifestyle that is on offer. I hope you can assist me to attend.

The USA Tour will include attending NBA Games and having the On Court NBA fan experience, attending NFL Games and playing a minimum of six (6) basketball games against Local High Schools. The tour will expose me to College Basketball, NBA and NBL scouts. The USA Tour includes activities such as visiting and the sightseeing of significant areas the United States of America offers like the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Brooklyn Bridge, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial as well as visiting the White House.

In order for me to attend and fulfill my dream and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity that may never present itself again, I humbly ask for a contribution from you that will assist in offsetting costs associated with both tours.

By way of background, initially, I declined to attend both tours due to financial pressures it adds on my family and would feel guilt and deeply regret putting my mum and dad under financial pressure. I have been blessed to be supported by my family to pursue my dreams and hope you can assist me.

Your financial assistance will support my family having to pay all costs which will alleviate financial stress on my mum and dad in continuing their support of my four siblings. It will keep them out of considerable debt and support them in ensuring the rest of my family is supported on a long term basis.
