Throughout my journey in Colombia I came across a mother and a child: Deirelis as she’s called is a six year old girl in She suffers from microcephaly and paralysis.


Unable to even hold her head up she is constantly assisted by her mother to make sure she does not choke on her own drool.

When I discovered them, it was on a sidewalk near the Colombian – Venezuelan border. With a monthly salary of $200 Deirelis’s mother was forced to sell lollypops on the street to pay for her daughters diapers, and cover the rent.
