DeHerrera kidney transplant and donation recovery

This is my dad, Milton, and my mom, Hellen, with some of my brothers, my sister, and me. My dad is a hardworking, honest man who is always determined to provide for and care for my family. My mom is a loving, supportive mother, wife, and faithful follower of Christ. Now my dad is in dire need of a kidney transplant, and my mom will be the donor. My parents have always done the right thing for their family and friends, and now it is time for us to do what is right for them. Together we can help them by providing coverage for their expenses during this difficult time.

In August of 2020, he was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease resulting from diabetes. Even with his deteriorating condition, doctor’s appointments, and trips to the kidney transplant center, he continued to work hard to provide for his family for as long as he could. Now he has reached stage 5, and his kidneys are only functioning at 8%. This means he is now at the point where receiving a new kidney is crucial to saving his life.

We were so lucky that my mother has been approved as a match and is not only willing but also feels blessed to be able to be his donor. On September 28th, 2022, they will undergo the transplant procedure and must stay in Albuquerque for several weeks after being discharged from the hospital. Even after they go home, they will still be unable to work and make an income for multiple months.

Although my parents are fortunate enough to have health insurance that will cover the cost of the transplant, they still face a multitude of expenses before the transplant and during their recovery. These include paying for all trips to and from Albuquerque, hotel rooms and meals for them and their caregivers, all while continuing to pay for regular monthly bills and living costs. My dad will also have to go through follow-up care and take anti-rejection medication for the rest of his life.

My parents are the best I could have asked for, and any donation you can make is a huge blessing to our family. Your noble contribution will help my parents cover some of their expenses while they are recovering and will help them get back to doing the things they love. Together we can help my dad and mom the way they have always helped their loved ones and alleviate the financial burden they will face along the way.
