I've started this fund to support my very best friend and her sweet children during a time of uncertainty and loss. Those who know Debbie (French) Degelman know that she is the epitome of a giving, faithful servant. She is the daughter of missionaries and has worked for many different ministries though the years, touching lives across the country - in New Mexico, Alaska, Colorado, Florida - and as far asRomaina. She has the gift of hospitality and a gentle, humble spirit. But 2015 has been a harsh year for her and her children and I am trusting God to poor out provision for her and her kiddos through the body of Christ and our vast network of friends and family. In 2015, our dear friend experienced a breaking of trust in her marriage along with some disclosures which have caused her husband to leave and to be prohibited from seeing the children, at least temporarily. Debbie has shown unimaginable grace and strength, but these circumstances beyond her control have meant that she is suddenly living as a single mom of five children, ages 6 through 13. This creates financial as well as emotional strains on all of them - for daily needs, for family therapy, for child care and respite for Debbie and more. As if that isn't enough, In the midst of that struggle, she had a lump in her breast biopsied this year and now is standing in faith against a diagnosis of stage one breast cancer. Her cancer risk is relatively high, as she had thyroid cancer in 2002 and her mother died of cancer several years before that. Debbie needs both wisdom and provision for healing and for the best treatment course. Her preference is to use targeted nutritional supplements to support her body's natural defenses, but she may eventually need surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Each option has costs and risks for her to weigh. Please stand in faith with her so that she can continue to be there for her children at a time like this. Please join me in blessing the Degelman's and demonstrating the power of "crowd sourcing" and the abundance of God's provision through His people. Her husband, although he is not living with the family, does have a job and is providing some support and some medical insurance, but not enough to meet their surmounting needs. I have set a goal of $1500 to cover just the initial potential medical costs so that she can get treatment and nutricuticals before the cancer spreads. Anything above that I will work with Debbie to prioritize for housing and other living costs. Their current lease expires next month and she is believing that she won't have to uproot the kids during an already unstable time. In her own words, "I am standing in the authority God has given me and in agreement w/the Spirit that this is where we will remain. By faith, this house is what He has provided for us, where we are planted and where we will be for the next year." If the provision is there, I would also love to bless Debbie with the ability to buy her children some simple Christmas gifts stress free! I will provide updates on the actual costs and how the funds are used for all who wish to follow this account. This means so much to me and to this precious family. I know it is difficult for Debbie to ask for help, but I feel strongly that many love her and want to provide for her in this way. Thank you for your prayers and support for my beautiful friend.
