Dave Hernandez was involved in a lot of different volunteer activities.

He believed strongly in giving back to society in whatever way he was capable. He was involved with the Earth Discovery Institute, a local organization that brings nature to children through field trips, classroom programs and other activities.

He volunteered with the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Trail Maintenance Unit and provided safety training for use of the trail equipment. The San Diego Wildlife Refuge Complex was another place Dave volunteered, especially in the Jamul area.

Dave served on the Boards CALPA, the California Parks Association and the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Interpretive Association (CRSPIA) as the Board treasurer. He also helped out at the San Diego River Foundation. He was liaison between Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and the California State Parks Foundation Park Champions Program.

These funds will be used by his wife Michele to help with expenses due to the loss of Dave
