Defend Independent Journalism

I am a Labour member and NUJ accredited journalist. I applied for a press pass to attend and report on Labour’s Conference in Brighton but my application has been rejected by the police on security grounds. The police falsely claimed I am a security threat.

I have been very open and honest with people about my situation. I am a disabled former soldier with PTSD who is a journalist and active Labour member. I did suffer a breakdown some time ago which led to a court case in which the judge admonished the charge which the police haveto block access to my party’s conference on security grounds. Senior members of the party support me attending.

The High Court has ruled today (21st September 2019) that Sussex Police acted unlawfully in refusing me a press pass but Legal Aid doesn't cover my solicitors's costs of representing me against the police. This crowdfund is to fund the legal costs of that action.
