Boston Students' Service Trip!
Donation protected
Help us send the very first graduating class of the Dearborn STEM Academy on a service learning trip! We (Sarah, Tim, and Gina) are 11th grade teachers at the Dearborn, a public school in Boston. Our students are planning a trip to New Orleans to work with Camp Restore, where they will rebuild parks, plant trees, and paint homes in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
We need funds to cover travel expenses and food for students. Your donation will make this unique learning opportunity possible!
Our school is a new high school and the current 11th graders will be the first class to graduate. Their class says, "We are determined to create a culture of serving others. We want to teach the younger students in school about our mission and help them to learn how to become involved in their community through service."
Read the letter below from our students!
To Whom May Concern,
In April of 2016, a group students from Dearborn STEM Academy will be traveling to New Orleans to do a community service project. In New Orleans we will be working with Camp Restore to help to rebuild various parks, plant trees and paint homes in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. It’s our honor to participate in this project to serve and help others in the community. It is important for us, the Dearborn students, to come together as a group to work on this project so that we can help to make a difference. We will also spend two afternoons speaking to children in a local elementary school as well as residents of a local nursing home. New Orleans is also home to several top rated universities such as Xavier and Tulane where we will visit as well.
Working together on this project will be life changing for us because we will get to experience and see a different part of the country while helping others. We will begin our service here in Boston at the Greater Boston Food Bank where we will pack food for local families in need. Dearborn STEM Academy is a very new high school, we will be the first class to graduate in 2017 and we are determined to create a culture of serving others nationally and in Boston. We want to teach the younger students in school about our mission and help them to learn how to become involved in their community through service.
We are also working very hard now to raise money for our trip through various activities in and out of school. Many of us on Team New Orleans are first generation students in the United States, we work part-time jobs to help our families here and back home in Cape Verde and in the Dominican Republic. We would greatly appreciate any donation that you or your organization will be able to contribute in order to help our group complete a successful service trip in New Orleans.
Thank you for your consideration,
Team New Orleans 2016
