Saving Deer from a Tick Outbreak
Donation protected

There are deer in the Virgin Islands that have never been studied by science. Last year they had a terrible outbreak of dog ticks, and deer were seen with hundreds of ticks on their faces and ears, sometimes resulting in death.
I am a wildlife biologist and I would like to study this outbreak of ticks, and the deer themselves, to understand and halt this outbreak. To do this we have to be in the field and really study this system to understand what is promoting the tick numbers and why the deer are so vulnerable to parasitism.
I have five wonderful students who are going to work with me this summer on the project. We are ready to go but just need funding to make it happen.
Thank you for your interest in this project!
Sincerely,
Dr. Suzanne Nelson and her team of students, Ben, Danielle, Jake, Kaitie and Brysen
