I've been a dancer and artist for most of my life, and there’s a long tradition of chefs in my family. My art has been my life, and has taken me down many paths. Through it all, cooking has always been my passion — something deep in my bones — though I never imagined I'd choose it as a career path.
I conceived of Artemis in 2010. That’s when I realized I shouldn’t treat my refusal to choose between my art and my cooking as a source of friction. Rather, I should treat it as an inspiration — and embrace it! First, I needed to formalize my skills. In the next four years I was lucky enough to work with talented and inspiring chefs in Marfa, New Orleans and New York. I went from working with two Michelin star chefs in Texas to working in a Michelin star kitchen in New York.
I have an uncompromising approach to life, so now I’ve plunged head-first into creating my dream project. Artemis is a conceptual dining endeavor, a collective dream-poem of the possibilities of food, a collaborative effort that brings together chefs, artists, small farm operations, Bon Vivants and service industry renegades. In order to stay afloat I took a day job that payed the bills but allowed the time I needed to launch the project. A few weeks ago, the job ended unexpectedly forcing me to an abrupt standstill.
Last week the opportunity I had been waiting for presented itself: the right space, and a date, for the first uniquely Artemis dinner! And the way I see it, I had no option but to keep moving forward. In the past I had created many events, but they were part of other organizations. I needed to unfetter my vision and fulfill my own ideas.
The last few months have been incredibly productive. I created the website, set up media accounts, networked, hosted pop-ups and began production of a documentary film for the project. I have exhausted my resources and in order to get the project off the ground; now, I need your help. Although I have raised a big percentage for the launch, it's not enough to see my vision through. I have worked beyond my limitations to reach this point. I refuse to give up! Failure is not an option at this point. This dinner event will happen, and I want you to be a part of it!
Any help, however small, will help me launch my dream into reality. The contributions will pay for the the specialty materials, performers, qualified staff and film production continuance. Because the project is in its early stages I can only offer a seat at a future event for you and a guest if you donate $100. Thank you for taking the time to visit my campaign.
