Tagline: Run. Hunt. Repent.

Logline: In Canada, 1869, a Traveller attempts to leave behind the life he once knew. However, a demonic force comes between the Traveller and his search for a new way of life.

Basic Information:

Deer Meat is a story about trauma and how it can consume you. Set in 1869, Canada, a young Traveller escapes into the woods searching for a safe haven. Once the Traveller departs, he is left cold, alone, and hungry. Taking matters into his own hands, the Traveller strikes down an easy target: a baby doe. This is not taken lightly, however. After this murder, the doe’s Mother seeks rage-fueled revenge on the Traveller.

We want to showcase our abilities to tell a traditional story in a new, experimental, and unexpected way with this film. In addition, the crew has a passion for in-camera practical effects and dynamic camera work. These tools will enhance the story and give the audience a fun and haunting viewing experience.

Note from Director Aidan Scrimy:

This film is very much a passion project of mine. Deer Meat has been my sole focus nearing two and a half years, and it is finally ready to be brought to life. Preparing myself to take on a film of this scale has been challenging and exciting, and I am so eager to be this close to finally shooting this project. The one thing I feel that will make this story unique and feel real is the way the characters and environment look, respectively. This includes the practical effects we will be using to make “Mother” look otherworldly and scary. Along with the costume design, it also ensures the audience knows that the Traveller is not of modern times. There is so much more to tell and share, but that will have to be saved for the screen.

Note from Producer Austin Micallef:

Deer Meat is a special story.

It is simultaneously a classic horror piece and an intimate character study. It focuses on a collection of moments set in 1869, yet tells a tragically timeless story. It may give you questions, or it may give you answers. Deer Meat is many things tightly wound together in our director’s creative vision.

We are eager to bring the best version of Deer Meat to life in the hopes that viewers will connect with the story in the same way we have. Whether you form a bond with the Traveller, feel drawn in by Mother’s haunting gaze, feel inspired by our visual style, or relish in the story’s soundscape, we’re excited to finally create Deer Meat.

Note from Producers Ana Dias and Stephanie Mackenzie:

Deer Meat is a project were super excited about!! Ever since we heard the concept we knew we had a good group and an amazing story to tell. We’re really excited to help in this process and see all the creativity come out of this story and the people involved!

Note from Producer Benny Berry:

Deer Meat has been a project I've closely watched be developed from the simple idea pitch to where it is now. I met Aidan Scrimy in grade 11 and we immediately started bonding over everything, especially our love for film; I wouldn't be where I am right now without him. I am excited to continue working on this film alongside Aidan, Austin, the 'Eye For It' productions producers and the continually building crew. From poster alterations, to meetings, etc. I have only gotten more excited to help aid in creating Aidan's vision. As the film's picture editor and script supervisor, I hope to help as much as I possibly can to make this film everything Aidan and
the crew wants; I'm very passionate about this film and cannot wait to release it to the crowd!!

Where Your Donations Will Go Toward:

The Deer Meat GoFundMe was created with the intention of heightening the film’s artistic production value. A large portion of the funds will be allocated towards the creation of “Mother.” As the films main antagonist, we are excited to see her sinister presence come to life through the creation of a stylized and grotesque puppet. Aside from Mother and other production design elements, the majority of the budget will go towards catering and transportation for our crew, collecting gear, and distributing the film for a festival run.
