Who We Are:
The Deep Water Initiative is a non-profit organization (501c3) dedicated to building the academic field of Religion and Ecology through educational film and transformational media programs. Our central ambition is to develop this field by sharing an ecological message with cultures and traditions of faith.
What We Do:
We design, and facilitate, educational film series that are hosted at universities, religious communities, and other educational institutions. At present, we are also running two podcast series – Torah for the Earth and the Old Way – which each explore the human relationship to principles of ecology.
How You Can Help:
On Sunday August 8, 2021, the Deep Water Initiative will be hosting a Religion & Ecology Film Festival at Temple Har Shalom in Park City, Utah. The event will be the first annual Religion & Ecology Film Festival that will highlight filmmakers and artists whose work deals with the intersection between humans, their respective mediums of faith, and the more-than-human Earth community (i.e. plants, animals, fungi etc.). Film is an artistic medium that can be used to transform our way of seeing the world, and can expand our capacity to engage more deeply with the human experience. It can help us question our own worldviews, cultural standards and norms. We’d like to invite you to participate in this event by donating to this cause. More information will be posted on our website at the beginning of April.
From your donations we would like to:
· Pay for the film festival venue
· Pay to bring filmmakers and artists to the event
· Pay for venue equipment
· Pay for promotional materials for the event
· Source and sponsor the costs of screening films
Note: The Deep Water Initiative is classified as a private operating foundation that qualifies for tax exempt status under section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations are tax deductible!
