Help us Prevent Future Tragedies: DVT Awareness
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Elisha King, and I am fundraising for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) awareness.
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the legs. It can cause leg pain, swelling, warmth, and redness but sometimes there are no symptoms at all. DVT is extremely serious because if the clot breaks free, it can travel to the lungs and cause a life-threatening pulmonary embolism. Risk factors include long periods of sitting, surgery, smoking, certain medications, and genetic clotting disorders.
I am passionate about raising awareness and funds for DVT because on the 8th of August 2024, I tragically lost my beautiful sister, Chelsey Grace King, at just 21 years old due to DVT. Chelsey was, is, and always will be my best friend. I will miss her every day for the rest of my life. While I know I owe her nothing, I feel, deep in my heart, that raising awareness is something I must do in her honor.
Chelsey’s passing was a devastating, freak accident something that should never have happened. DVT claims between 60,000 to 100,000 lives around the world each year, yet it is rarely spoken about. By fundraising and spreading awareness, we can help save lives.
All funds raised will be donated to the Clinical Thrombosis Service at alfreds hospital to support research, education, and prevention efforts surrounding DVT.
Let’s honor Chelsey’s memory by making a difference.
Thank you for your support!
