Dee Sturgeon is a lifelong philanthropist to
our Siouxland Community. Dee was diagnosed with Covid in November. She has been unable to work and no longer has any sick time to use to keep her household afloat. She lived with
her mother and cared for her most of her adult life. Dee’s mother passed away from Covid a week after Dee was diagnosed with Covid. Not only did she lose her mother she was too sick to say goodbye in person. Dee has gone from a two income household to now a one income-But cannot currently work due to her oxygen levels not being where they need to be due to Covid. Dee is a paraprofessional in the Sioux City SchoolDistrict. More importantly she is a friend and mother to all the students and staff she serves.Dee does not have a family of her own but she loves and cares for anyone who crosses her path. Dee is actively involved in Special Olympics for the West Middle and West High students. This is a passion for Dee. She fundraisers and organized events monthly. Dee is actively involved with ensuring students have what they need over the holidays . She comes to school 6:30am on her own time to ensure kids who are dropped off early have someone to watch over them. Although Dee has always had a modest salary she gives monetarily to staff and students regularly. With the modest income Dee earns she is truly able to use it and assist her community in miraculous ways. This is the time we need to take care of our dear friend, colleague and giver to our community. Dee is a Westside and Siouxland community treasure.
