This is the story of Dee & Billy.
They started as two incredible individuals who were fortunate to find each other. After 30 years of marriage, they have become an incredible, inseparable, couple in love. Today, however, they both face some monumental health challenges. We’re asking for your help.
About Dee…..Kind, Insightful, Smart, Patient, Funny, Positive, Talented and Witty. She’s a devoted wife, a beautiful daughter, a loving sister, a loyal friend and a committed co-worker. In her hay day she was a skilled athlete and now continues to be an avid sports fan who never misses the chance to cheer on her CATS, Packers or Pirates. She's the person that you feel lucky to have in your life. Most impressive though, has been her relentless courage and determination in her personal journey to endure and fight her multiple medical challenges and regain her health.
As for Billy, he’s been the most supportive and caring husband. He’s been Dee’s right arm since their marriage and her diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes at age 18. Billy is Strong, Proud, Clever, Passionate, Honest, Confident and Inventive. Like Dee, he was as an athlete in his youth and has always been her biggest supporter of every competitive activity. He also loves his CATS…..and all Dee’s other teams. Billy is the guy you want in your corner, always quick to help anyone in need.
At this moment, both Dee and Billy face grave health issues.
In 2015, Dee was tested for Celiac disease. The discovery of masses on her small intestine ensued, with the ultimate diagnosis of Cancer. She underwent a major surgery to remove portions of her stomach. She’s fiercely battled this relentless cancer on every front for 4 years. She continues her fight. Unfortunately, due to her poor health, she has had to leave her job of 31 years and rely on limited Disability. In recent months she’s been in and out of the hospital and endured 2 additional surgeries to remove tumors in an effort to relieve her constant pain and assist her with digestion, as it’s been nearly impossible for her to eat. She’s fighting like the champ that she is and continues chemotherapy when her worn body can tolerate it.
Billy is having significant health challenges of his own. He’s battled severe back problems for many years. Most recently he experienced complications from a disc fusion surgery in late 2018. As recently as April 20th, he had to undergo another procedure for a grave infection in his back. He was released from the hospital only to go home for a 6-8 week stint of IV antibiotics. Rehabilitation yet another hurdle before returning to work.
Unfortunately, Dee and Billy are apart at this time because of the seriousness of her condition and Billy's current limitations as care giver. She is staying with her amazing Mother.
Needless to say, our dear friends need assistance. The medical bills are accumulating as well as everyday life bills that cannot be paid without working salaries.
Given everything that has happened, it would be understandable for both Dee and Billy to be bitter, angry and defeated. They are not. Instead, they are faithful, positive, tolerant and optimistic. They continue to face and persevere through their many hardships. They remain devoted to each other and are loved by too many to count.
