Dedicate January 28th as National Crossing Guard Day

The position of Crossing Guard is one of the most dangerous public safety jobs in the United States*, yet there is currently no unified, nationally recognized day honoring them like there is for nurses, secretaries or even librarians. You can change that!

Help us establish January 28 as National Crossing Guard Day to honor ALL crossing guards who protect our children and communities every day.

After gathering public support through our change.org petition, endorsements from school safety organizations, and an official proclamation from the State of Utah, our application to officially recognize National Crossing Guard Day with National Day Calendar was approved! But there is one more step…that’s where we need your help!

To finalize the designation, a one-time $6,000 registration fee is required. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS! If you contribute $5, or even just share this campaign, you will make a difference in recognizing the contributions and sacrifices so many crossing guards have made for all our children.

This effort was inspired by Steven Winn, our beloved father and Crossing Guard Santa from Layton, Utah, who was tragically killed by a negligent driver after safely helping children cross the street. Through his service, we saw firsthand the dedication, courage, and risks crossing guards face daily. Sadly, our father’s story is not unique. Three more crossing guards, John, Katy and Jean, have lost their lives protecting their school kids just this year, not to mention all the guards who have been hit and injured.

Time is of the essence- we need this finalized before the new 26-27 school year begins, so your help is critical!

With your generosity, we can make January 28, 2027 our first OFFICIAL National Crossing Guard Day!
