I am starting this gofundme on behalf of my sister and brother-in-law, Carli and Cody Brumbach. Carli and Cody have an adorable 1 year old son named Declan, who was diagnosed at birth with a genetic disorder known as MSUD (Maple Syrup Urine Disease). This condition means the body is unable to break down protein. It puts Declan at risk to develop severe weight loss, chronic lung infection, difficulty breathing, neurological disorders and other metabolic crises, including brain damage and death.

After significant research and education, Carli and Cody made the difficult decision to put Declan on a liver transplant list last year. This would allow Declan the best chance to live a normal, healthy life. They got the call Sunday that there was a liver available for him and Declan had his transplant surgery last night. He is currently in the PICU at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Declan, with Carli and Cody, will need to stay in Pittsburgh, as this time is crucial to making sure everything is ok before Declan is cleared to return home. Carli and Cody will have to find living arrangements for the next 3 months, as the hospital will become their second home while Declan is recovering. Because of hospital regulations, they are not allowed to come home during this time, which means they cannot see or care for their other two children, Brayden and Carter, ages 7 and 3.

As you can imagine, this situation is going to be extremely stressful for their family, both mentally and financially. If you know Carli and Cody, you know how strong they are and know they would never ask for help. Not only do they have their routine living expenses, but in addition, they will need to find accommodations for the next 3 months, in a city located 5 hours from their home and other children. I am reaching out in the hopes that we can try to come together and make this as easy for The Brumbach Family as possible.
