On March 12, 2020 Declan Beau Wright passed away in his sleep.  A detailed autopsy could not find a cause of death.  This is known as SUDC (Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood).  Like many others, Eliot and I had never heard of this before.  SUDC is rare.  It only affects 400 children in the U.S. every year.  Because of this, SUDC receives little attention and funding.  It is our goal to raise awareness for SUDC and assist in providing the SUDC Foundation with much needed funding.  The SUDC Foundation has served our family well over the past month and a half.  We have received emotional support and advocacy with the medical examiner.  Through the SUDC Foundation we are doing DNA banking, which will assist in researching a cause for SUDC.  To this end, Eliot and I have decided to begin a non-profit foundation in Declan's name, Declan's Day Foundation.  Our goal is raise awareness for SUDC first in our own community and then further.  Most importantly, we wish to keep Declan's memory alive.  We wish to celebrate his life the best way that we can. We hope to plan a multitude of events and fundraisers in the years to come.  We are so lucky to have a community of people who we know will support us in this. 

I am creating this go fund me account for the initial costs to start the non-profit corporation.  While we are already a registered business in New Jersey (yay!), we have yet to file the additional paperwork to become tax exempt on both the state and federal level.  To do this correctly, we wish to consult with professionals who will ensure that we are beginning our non-profit with a solid foundation.  Any additional funds will be used to organize our first fundraisers.  We are so grateful to everyone who has provided us with support over the last month and a half.  We would not have survived this without you.  Please consider joining us in bringing awareness to this cause.
