Declan's Craino Surgery
Donation protected
On June 29th 2016, my sweet baby boy was born. The next day his pediatrician was looking him over and noticed his head shape was off. They came in and did a full ultrasound on his head to make sure his brain was good. In August 2016 we were referred to UT Physicians in Houston. There they told us Declan needed a CT scan so they could get a better look before diagnosing him with Craniosynostosis. Once they reviewed the scans they told us that he was clear and that he had a slight fusion with a metopic ridge. At that point there was no need for surgery. We went back for his 3 month check up in November, and they told us again that we are still in the clear and his head is shaping up nicely. God was telling me differently, I didn’t feel that this was right. I did my research every day and became part of all the Facebook groups and blogs. I knew we needed a second opinion. When Declan and I moved back up here from Texas I quickly found a doctor at Children’s and made the appointment. I informed them of everything we have been through thus far, and he just looked at me like I was crazy. He let me know that it is not possible for Declan to grow into his forehead and everything be alright. The doctor told me that he didn’t even have to look at the images to diagnose him with Metopic Craniosynostosis with possible Trig. I was then told he has missed the window for having the smaller endoscopic surgery and that he would need a major reconstructive surgery of his skull around one year of age. My heart dropped to the floor. Tears filled my eyes. I just look into this little boy’s eyes and can’t even imagine what he is going to go through. Being a single mom is hard as it is, but now I will find out what it is like to be a strong single mommy. God has my son and will be with us every step of the way.
