Update: Because we are running a new go fund me for medical expenses related to changing insurance/moving, we have closed down donations to this one so that we can track those funds differently. On Friday, November 10, we got news we never thought we’d hear: Declan has leukemia. B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to be specific. The recovery from this disease is at least 2 years long, and that’s if everything goes perfectly without any hiccups.

Aside from the obvious medical expenses, we aren’t sure what other expenses will come up, but we do know that they are coming. We already suspect we will need to install another bathroom in the house in order to have a safe space for our chemo-kiddo to go potty, and will probably need to make our house more accessible for a period of time if he loses the strength/ability to walk comfortably during this process. We also have all of the cleaning/sanitizing products to maintain the house at a safe level for him. And countless other things that aren’t even on our radar yet.

Supporting this gofundme would enable us to cover those expenses. Ultimately, we set the goal to $25,000 as an arbitrary amount. It is by no means what we’re expecting to actually raise through this, but it’s our high guess of what this could end up running.

Anything not spent directly on things needed for Declan’s cancer recovery will be donated to a childhood leukemia foundation that provides help to other children struggling with this disease. (It really hit Elizabeth hard how many little children are all alone in their hospital rooms. We will be looking for a foundation that focuses on that, but don’t have the time to figure a specific one out just yet.)

If you’re willing to donate, we would be eternally grateful for the help, but honestly, your prayers are equally, if not more so, appreciated. We know God has Declan in his hands and is guiding everything from the early detection to having a top-rate pediatric cancer center just down the road from us. There has been nothing but blessings pouring out during this time and we are so thankful for it all.
