Declan Barrett’s medical expenses
Meet our nephew, the mighty warrior Declan and his mommy and daddy, Mitchell and Chelsea. At 2 months old, Declan was diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation (a leaky valve) and mitral stenosis (the valve is thicker than it should be).
The back story: Chelsea had a normal pregnancy and when he was born, he was a typical newborn with fussy times here and there and seemed to be eating, sleeping, peeing and pooping just fine. After a routine appt with his pediatrician, turned into an ER visit at Children’s hospital, Declan was diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation (a leaky valve) and mitral stenosis (the valve is thicker than it should be).
This diagnosis at two months old was shocking to say the least. As new parents, Mitch and Chelsea never thought their newborn would be labeled a “cardiac baby”. That was devastating for them to to hear in the beginning.
Never did we ever think we would be setting up a go fund me page or see a caring bridge site for our brother’s new baby and his family.
Declan is the sweetest, smiliest, marathon running baby, kicking every chance he gets. He literally melts you with his big smile and his big baby blues. Hospital staff stop in just for social visits and to see his smile to make their day even if they aren’t on his care team. It’s so cute! The staff are superheroes to us!!!
The money raised will be used for hospital bills and to help supplement their income as Chelsea used all of her PTO for her maternity leave. So any days she takes off are unpaid. Given Declan’s recently placed feeding tube, he is not able to return to daycare. Family members are able to help babysit this summer while they go to work in the short term, however, they will need several more weeks off during and after his surgery. Mitchell and Chelsea are unsure when he would be able to return to daycare and are trying to after surgery. Their unpaid time off of work while he undergoes stays for various reasons and the upcoming open heart surgery.
We are grateful and feel blessed for all of your continued prayers, love and support during this long and stressful season they are going through.
Thank you in advance for any amount you are able to contribute to help Declan and his family.
