Declan Rathbone and Family

Declan is a brave 9-year-old boy who is a passionate LEGO builder with a vivid imagination and a love for creating. Since the age of 3, he has been battling chronic intestinal dysmotility, a serious medical condition that has required immense strength and resilience. Over the years, he has endured more than 30 surgeries and spent over a full year, all together, in the hospital...the most recent was a 77 day stay. Despite these challenges his spirit remains bright and his love for building with LEGOs continues to be a source of joy, comfort, and creativity through the toughest times.

As dedicated working parents Wes and Jamie Rathbone have always balanced their careers with providing a stable loving home. However, their son’s complex medical needs have required them to make immense sacrifices, including taking extended time off work to provide around-the-clock care. Juggling hospital stays, medical appointments and daily caregiving responsibilities has meant Jamie putting her professional life on hold to be fully present for their child. Leaving Wes the sole provider for their family. Their unwavering commitment, resilience, and love have been the foundation of their son's strength throughout his medical journey.
