Decatur Strength & Conditioning Re-Branding

Donation protected
With all that is going on in the world, last weekend Greg Glassman, the CEO of Crossfit and Crossfit HQ, made some insensitive, careless and racial statements that set up division in the cohesiveness of our Crossfit community. Without skipping a beat, Eric, the owner of Crossfit Decatur, not only separated himself and the community we call home, but he initiated the change of Crossfit Decatur to Decatur Strength & Conditioning immediately. Last Monday, the painters were out and removing the previous name of the building then applying fresh paint in preparation of our new name. He ordered a new sign and has taken charge on making sure our community knows that nothing will change inside of our building except the name!!! He has worked diligently to get the re-branding done, including the tedious paperwork in a timely manner. He has made himself available to answer any questions and has continually professed love & forgiveness to moving forward.

The cost for Re-Branding is upward of $15,000. With the pandemic, coaches salaries,  re-configuring the gym to accommodate the social distancing, cleaning supplies and all the extras to keep us safe and healthy, and now the re-branding, Eric has not asked for anything. In talking to a few people in the community, several asked how can we help? With permission, I wanted to reach out to everyone that wants to make a difference. Let's show Eric just how much we love and appreciate his conviction. I am asking anyone that will... give what you can, no amount is too big or small, to help aid in re-branding our fitness home. Let's show what our community is all about... a diverse community helping & leaning on each other to become healthier & stronger physically, mentally and emotionally... while telling the world that one man's racism will not corrupt nor overshadow the future of our commitment to a better & cohesive way of living.  For some of you with children, you can even use this as a teachable moment... of taking a stance against racial injustices... and letting them be a part!!!

Thank you in advance!!! Le

Statement posted on social media from the Owner, Eric, of Decatur Strength & Conditioning formerly known as Crossfit Decatur:

In the wake of the recent comments  by Greg Glassman and the actions taken by CrossFit Inc. after the fact I have decided to disaffiliate from CrossFit.

As an Black Gym owner, born and raised in the South, I'm devastated by what has happened in the last week and can no longer financially or intellectually support an organization that is owned by someone who is so callously insensitive to the black lives matter movement.

CrossFit Decatur will now be called Decatur Strength & Conditioning.

I know change is an uncomfortable thing. Fortunately, CrossFit Inc, does not have proprietary ownership of anything we do other than the name CrossFit. So nothing about your experience at Decatur Strength & Conditioning will be different than it was under our former name. We will do WODs/MetCons; our program is still built on performing functional movements at high intensity. The coaches will coach the same way as before. We even will continue to use Wodify.

Most importantly, our community will not change. We are still a group of people that want to train hard so we can live long, fulfilling lives.  We accept everyone and everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, etc. We firmly believe our mission is to create lifelong fitness in the community of Decatur.
Thanks for supporting me and the gym for the last 14+ years. The coaches and I are looking forward to continuing serving you under our new name.
Eric
