Debut "Roadkill Bambi" by Mal at Edinburgh Fringe 2025!

Donation protected
We're performing "Roadkill Bambi"-- a new one act by Mal MacKenzie-- as part of the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

What's this play?
Portia and her girlfriend Alison are driving home from a wedding. They hit a deer. Portia dies.
Portia and her girlfriend Alison are driving home from a wedding. They hit a deer. Portia dies.
The deer gives the audience a philosophy lecture.
Portia and her girlfriend— wait what? They hit a deer. Portia dies.
Portia is caught in a twisted version of Groundhog Day, forced to relive this car accident over and over and forced to confront truths about herself and her relationship while she tries desperately to escape it.

Roadkill Bambi is a surreal exploration of imagined futures, self-destructive instincts, and how to make decisions while staring down inevitable disaster. Whether it be realizing a relationship is irrevocably changed, recieving a new medical diagnosis, or facing the current climate crisis-- how do we embark on necessary redirections when everything in nature bends into cycles of repetition?

Why you doin' this?
After a staged reading with The Pennsylvania State Acting BFA in March of 2023 it became clear that this hour-long work of wacky, queer, existential theater was perfect for the festival circut and the ideal piece to professionally debut Mal's writing. Edinburgh has long hosted the first and largest Fringe festival in the world. This is an opportunity to have Roadkill Bambi seen by fellow artists from around the globe, to connect with those folks, and to join in a tradition of theater that seeks to be in conversation with it's audiences-- challenging a rising trend of passive content creation and consumption.

What do you need my $$ for?
Such an undertaking is not cheap, even with a small cast of three and a crew of two. Mal is pinching pennies, applying to grants, and cutting costs where they can. But we are still seeking help to cover the following for our rough and tumble crew:
Fringe registration
Venue hire, including box office support and required insurance coverage
Accommodation
Plane Tickets
Marketing material (because what's the point of theater without an audience?-- contact me privately if you actually want to try and answer that)

Are donations tax deductible?
If you are interested in making a donation that is tax deductible contact Mal directly for more information on how to direct your funds.
