Deb's Fight - Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Lourie Craver and I am helping to raise funds for my sister Deb Hoffman. Deb was recently diagnosed with Vulvular Cancer with Lymph Node Involvement. Her doctor's original plan of attack was surgery to be followed up with radiation treatment and possible chemotherapy. Plans changed when they received the results of her PET scan. The PET scan showed that there was lymph node involvement in the pelvic region that would not be accessible during a surgery attempt to remove all the bad stuff. So, the new plan of attack is for Deb to undergo 6 weeks of intense chemotherapy and radiation treatment in Pittsburgh at UPMC Magee - Womens Hospital, as an outpatient. Since the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centers are about 4 hours drive from where Deb lives in Muncy, PA and she will be getting daily treatments, Deb will have to live in Pittsburgh, close to the hospital during the whole treatment time. The travel expenses, lodging expenses and all the extra costs associated with not living at home (food, laundry, etc.) are not covered by medical insurance. Covering these expenses is where your help is needed.
Deb Hoffman is a much loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is blessed with 2 daughters - Logan and Ryan and 4 grandchildren - Aniyah, Iyanah, Aleida and Odin. Her grandbabies are lucky enough to see Deb, almost daily. And, they love their "Maumo" Since she will be in Pittsburgh and the kids will still be in Muncy and Montoursville, PA.... Deb is going to have to weather this storm alone for the most part. Since I am recently retired, I plan to stay with her in Pittsburgh during her 1st few days of treatment, but I live in North Carolina, so I can't stay with her the whole time, like I would prefer to do. My plan is to travel from NC to PA as often as possible, so I can be with her as much as I can.
Deb's whole life has been about taking care of people. She became a nurse in 1969 and just retired in 2020. Her career took her from PA, to Ohio and North Carolina and finally returning to PA, to raise her kids. I was lucky enough to work with Deb at the same hospital, WakeMed, for several years. I know I am biased, but Deb is one of the smartest nurses I know and was much appreciated by her many co-workers. Deb was a great patient advocate and provided the best patient care.... her 1st priority was always her patients!
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. And, please also, share your words of encouragement to Deb during this time. If you worked with Debbie or had any special connection, please share them in the comments. She is our warrior!!!!
