Help Deb Beat Cancer!
We the team at Huffman Family Dentistry, are asking for your help! Many of you know Debra Raburn as a friend, family member or through Huffman Family Dentistry, where she has worked since 1998. Deb is the friendly face that helps people with their insurance and has assisted many of you through difficult times in your lives, by working with you to help manage your dental bills. Debbie is going through her second round of chemo. In 2014 she was diagnosed with Colon cancer. With surgery and chemo treatment she beat it, but now it has returned. The Cancer is now in her liver, but she has a great prognosis! However, it means going through surgery and chemo therapy again, and this time they are fighting it with a vengeance. Her personal funds are depleted. She is unable to work through the bouts of chemo, and is missing many days a week. Any amount that you can donate will be a blessing. Any funds raised will help Deb pay for her home expenses such as utilites and food, as well as her growing medical debt.
Deb is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met, she never forgets a Birthday and even when she has little extra for herself, she always has enough for others. She gives back to the community by creating personal hygiene baskets every other month to give to various charities, such as AWAIC. Deb has had many personal trials over the years. Through her cancer treatment as well as her personal trials Deb has shown an amazing amount of strength of character, as she has tackled each situation with dignity and grace. Give back to Deb, the way she has given to others, every dollar is appreciated!
If you want to know more about Deb’s life, here is her story told by her daughters.
Our mom is the most courageous woman we know. She is the most strong, kind, loving, giving person you would ever meet. In September 2014 she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She underwent surgery and chemo finishing up in the spring of 2015. In April of 2016 she found out the cancer was back and this time her liver. She underwent surgery in which they took a third of her liver. She is now going through chemo once again. The chemo is quite challenging for her as she has several side effects from the drugs. The side effects have caused her to miss several days of work at a time. Our mom is not one to miss work. She loves her job at Huffman Family Dentistry, she enjoys helping out the patients and the staff is like her second family. When she was diagnosed in 2016 she had just made the last payment from the previous round of surgery and chemo. This depleted her savings because of the lost time at work.
Our mom has faced several challenges in her life in the last several years. She has gone through a divorce, death of her son-in-law, death of her daughter, her other daughter diagnosed with MS and many other challenges that she has helped out with her daughters and many of their friends. When her son-in-law, Derek passed away he left behind her daughter Jodee expecting their baby. Shortly after Elizabeth their baby daughter was born, Jodee was diagnosed with MS. During her struggle to get her MS under control our mom was right there as her total support and helped her with Elizabeth. Three years later her daughter Ashlee passed away after several months of liver failure. Ashlee had been a victim of domestic violence, leaving behind her son Dakota who turned three a week after her death. Our mom therefore took over his care and raised him along with Elizabeth, they are 5 months apart.
Loree her oldest daughter has had challenges of her own with 4 children. Our mom never hesitated to help them out whether it be financially or just lending a listening ear. Brittanee, her youngest daughter has had medical issues too, which of course our mom was her rock. There again she helped her out financially when needed or just lending a listening ear.
As we were growing up many of our friends have adopted our mom. She was always there to help them out with whatever the need. Now many of them have children of their own and she still never hesitates to offer a helping hand. She is now known as "Grandma Deb" to most children that come into contact with her.
Early in her marriage her Mother-in-law passed away and our mom welcomed her two sister-in-laws into their home with open arms. Jolene and DeAnna are still very close to her.
She has helped them out in any way that was needed. DeAnna has two sons and two grandchildren that all hold a very special place in her heart.
One of her favorite pass times is making craft projects for the children at AWAIC. AWAIC helped her daughter, Ashlee when she was dealing with her own encounters of domestic violence.
She loves to spend times with her family and friends. One of her highlights was the annual "Gingerbread House Christmas Party". She has not been able to do this for her grandchildren and the many adopted grandchildren due to funds and her health. “Santa” would make a surprise visit to the party, the money he received he uses to help out other people that were less fortunate.
As you can see our mom is a very special woman with a big loving, giving heart. We are asking for any blessings you can share with her in her time of need. She has blessed so many of us in the past and present with love and care. The stories we have shared with you are just a few of the stories that have brought joy and blessings to our lives.
One of the things our mom has always told us is to trust in the Lord because he takes care of his children. Her strong faith, family and friends is what put that beautiful smile on her face no matter how she feels.
May God bless you for taking the time to listen to our story any contributions you make towards our cause. Our Mom is an amazing woman and we know she can beat this cancer.
