Help Writer/Artist Deborah Savage and Her Rescue Animals Start Over
Deborah Savage, 60, her four dogs, two cats, and four parrots (all rescue animals) were left homeless early Thanksgiving morning when the western Massachusetts apartment building where she’d lived and had her art/writing studio for 19 years burned down.
You can help Deborah and her animals start over in a new home and studio by:
1) donating money through this Deborah Savage Gofundme site
2) helping her find work as an educator, artist, or writer
3) commissioning Deborah to create personalized visual art or writing

Deborah's story:
Deborah lives in western Massachusetts where she has worked as a visual artist, an author of books for young adults, and a teacher. In 2012 Deborah moved her elderly mother into an apartment in her building and became her full-time care-giver. Deborah’s professional life as a writer and artist went on hold for the next three years until her mother's death in January 2015. In the difficult months that followed, Deborah began the challenging work of rebuilding her creative life as a writer and artist. Then, Deborah lost her home and studio when a fire destroyed the apartment building where she lived and worked.
Deborah found herself in an immediate crisis. She had lost an affordable apartment in a quiet, rural area where she was allowed to have her animals and which was large enough to contain her studio. Now, during the winter holiday season, with her animals, limited finances and her need for a space that could be both home and studio, it quickly became evident that Deborah’s chances of finding another rental situation were impossible.
A glance at “no pets allowed” apartment ads will show the urgency of Deborah's situation. However, it was not an option for Deborah to give up the animals, as any animal-lover will understand. Since the fire she has been staying at a local motel which allows dogs. Her cats are being boarded with her wonderful veterinarian and her parrots are being cared for by a generous neighbor.
With the small inheritance from her mother, Deborah is buying a foreclosed house in Greenfield. But that is taking literally everything she has and the house needs a great deal of work before it is habitable. Deborah seeks financial help to rebuild her life.
