Debbie’s Stem Cell Transplant

In early 2020, our family’s matriarch was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. What we thought was a vitamin D deficiency or your regular, run-of-the-mill fatigue turned out to be Myelofibrosis.

Myelofibrosis is a very rare blood cancer that effects a person’s bone marrow. Bone marrow is supposed to be squishy and spongy. It is the body’s warehouse for producing all of the blood cells that we need. With this cancer, the bone marrow turns into a fibrous consistency (more of a Brillo pad than a soft sponge) and makes blood cells that are ineffective. In the worst cases, it stops producing blood cells altogether.

The only known “cure” for this diagnosis is a transplant. By the grace of God, Debbie has found a 100% match in her brother, and he will be donating his bone marrow for the process. Specifically, she’ll be receiving a stem cell transplant which is scheduled for this September (9/9 to be exact).

At this time, we are still learning about the financial obligations of this process. As a family, we anticipate significant costs related to hospital bills, medications, and items needed along the journey. We are setting a modest goal of $50,000 in hopes that Debbie and her husband will not have to spend their entire life savings to fight this cancer.

Please help us provide some relief for Debbie!!
