Debbie Long House Fire

Hi, my name is Haley Bowers, Debbie Long’s daughter. This weekend my mom was visiting my family in Atlanta when we received horrible news. Early Sunday morning she was woken up by a call from the fire marshal. Her cozy little cabin, perched atop a mountain, was devoured by flames, taking with it cherished memories, years of art collecting, her beloved garden, and everything she owns.

My brother Jay, who was staying over, narrowly escaped the smoke-filled rooms, finding safety on the porch just before the White County firefighters swooped in.

We are incredibly grateful and relieved that both Jay and my mom were uninjured and are safe. However, it's heart-wrenching to think about how everything she owned, everything she cherished, is now gone in the blink of an eye.

This is absolutely devastating to her and to those that love her. Debbie has a strong community around her; those she taught with in White County, friends and loved ones in Houston, Tx, and her friends that span across the country.

So, here I am, starting this GoFundMe, not just to raise funds, but as a way for us to wrap our arms around her and show her that she's not alone in this. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us, and every little bit helps as Debbie begins this journey of healing and rebuilding. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
