Debbie Jo Watt

Debbie Jo Watt is a young Woman who is having expensive medical problems with a high deductable insurance policy who must cover medical costs out of pocket.  As a teenager Debra was diagnosed with  malignant cancer in her right femur.  Doctors wanted to amputate her leg to offer her the  best chance for a cure.  Her mom was very resistant to amputation, and the only other option was to cut out the section of bone with the tumor, and to place the missng section of bone with a titanium rod.  This was done, and after a prolonged period of time the bone grew around the rod and she was able to walk.  At the time she was given a dog she named Thor, to provide her with a constant companion.  Because of the effects of her chemotherapy she was unable to get pregnant and Thor became her baby.

Because of her altered gait, she devevelped severe degenerative disease in her right knee, making standing and walking extremely painful.  About this timd she lost her young father to brain cancer.  It was decided to proceed with  total knee replacement.  When they opened the knee, they found infected bone that involved her titanium rod.  Fortunately no recurance of the cancer was found.

Around this time, her mother died from sleep apnea. She was only in her 50's, and this was an obvious shock.  Debra had surgery to remove her hardware, and was started on daily IV antibiotics, administered by  Debra at home via an IV access in her chest.  The antibiotics cost $309 per week, and she will need to take them for 6 weeks.  This is not covered by her insurance until she meets her very high deductabe.  As a result these costs will need to be paid, out of pocket, as will be a significant portion of her orthopedic expenses. Money she does not have.

On top of all this, ger baby Thor developed a painful mass along the angle of his jaw which turned out to be cancer! We are waiting for the pafhology repory to see if this is benign or malignant.  Either way, any palliative treatment he receives will need tobe paid out of pocket.  This treatent is not  debatable bacauese Thor is her life.
