As friends and family may know, my mom Debbie Hargrove passed away April 18th, 2019. After making it through bladder cancer a few years back and then beating lung cancer in 2017, she was cancer free. Her and Danny decided to move back to Minnesota to be near family. Before coming back she had a cancer check where they once again found a spot on her lung. She waited until she got to Minnesota to have it diagnosed at the Mayo clinic. June 6th 2018 they confirmed that the cancer was back. She went through chemotherapy and then immunotherapy until she caught a cold this past March which exacerbated the COPD that she had been fighting as well. She was admitted into the Mayo clinic twice for 3-5 days each time and was sent home with breathing treatments, 24/7 oxygen, antibiotics and a host of other medications. She continued having trouble breathing and kept getting weaker and weaker. The last few days she was unable to eat or walk on her own. Hospice came in on Wednesday April 17th at 11am. To our surprise, the nurse thought at that time she probably had one week at most! We didn't think she was that close to the end of her life. Hospice had a bed set up for her in the living room by 5pm. We moved her into the bed right away to try and make her comfortable . She could not lay back without coughing, she couldn't breath and desperately needed to rest. As prescribed by her doctor, we gave her morphine to help her relax. By 9:00 pm she finally layed back and fell asleep. She passed away at 4:00 am with Danny and I by her side. Her fight is over and she is no longer in pain. She is now in a better place. While her and Danny did have medical insurance, the out of pocket costs for treatment through three bouts of cancer is still overwhelming. My mom told me that she was worried that her rising medical expenses would be a hardship on Danny after she was gone. I am trying to raise funds to help him with those costs. As he had taken such good care of her, she can rest in peace knowing that we are helping take care of him. In lieu of flowers for her memorial, we are asking for donations to help with her medical expenses. Thank you in advance and god bless . Love, her son Rick (Ricky)
